Top 10 dog walks in Lincolnshire

1. Grimsby

In the port town of Grimsby, you’ll find Weelsby Woods, a woodland area that is perfect for dog walkers who want to enjoy a peaceful stroll. It has several different pathways and large open spaces to choose from, as well as play areas, parking and picnic tables. Plus, in the summer months there’s even a café serving ice cream. Yum!

2. Whisby Nature Park

Located just five miles from Lincoln town, this nature reserve has 150 hectares of natural habitat. It’s perfect for dog walkers as there are six different routes to choose from, ranging from 1.5 to three miles, depending on what suits your needs. Whisby Nature Park will also be of particular interest to bird watchers!

3. Cleethorpes

With miles of sand to explore, your dog can run around and have fun while you take in the stunning views of Cleethorpe beach. The walk is four miles long if you start at Humberston Fitties and finish at the boating lake, including a stroll along the sea front parade.

If beaches aren’t your thing, then instead head to Cleethorpes Country Park where you’ll find a wheelchair and pram accessible route of 2.25 miles.

4. Hubbarts Hills

Located in Louth, this popular destination is perfect for dog walking in Lincolnshire. The River Lud walk is particularly picturesque, with stunning views along the way.

The Hubbarts Hills feature an Edwardian pleasure garden, a lake and a country park, which is a beautiful green space that has retained its rural charm. The whole walk will take an hour, and there’s parking at either entrance.

5. Market Rasen

Situated on the west edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds and located only 15 minutes from Wold View Country Park, you’ll find Market Rasen.

We suggest you pack up a picnic and head to Willingham Woods for an afternoon of exploring: walk your dog past Willingham Pond, the remains of Willingham Hall and through a good mix of woodland. It’s a thriving area too, so expect cyclists and horse riders, as well as orienteering groups.

6. Lincoln Castle

Have you ever wanted to take your dog with you on a tour of an historic castle? If so, you’ll be pleased to hear that Lincoln Castle have added dog friendly days to their events calendar, meaning all family members get to follow you on a journey through history.

In this unique experience, held one weekend a month, you can take your pup with you as you explore the Medieval Wall Walk, the Victorian prison cells and the Magna Carta!

7. Hartsholme Country Park

This stunning park situated just three miles from the centre of Lincoln offers a relaxing dog-friendly walk around the reservoir. Among the grasslands and wooded areas, you’ll find a stable and a Victorian garden that belonged to The Halls, a magnificent 19-bedroom house that once stood at the edge of the lake.

The country park also has parking, toilets, a visitor centre, a children’s play area, fishing and various nature trails.

8. Stamford Meadows

With plenty of space for your dog to run around and play, this beautiful park is perfect for a day out for all the family. The route is circular and muddy in parts depending on the weather, but enjoyable all the same.

The entire route should take you just under an hour to complete, and dogs should be able to go off lead at points.

9. Belton House

A brilliant example of restoration architecture, Belton House is ideal for a walk around the grounds with your dog. Dogs on leads are welcome in the parkland, gardens, shops and the stables café, and assistance dogs are also allowed to accompany owners in the mansion and playgrounds.

10. The Viking Way

Saving the best and most adventurous until last, we couldn’t leave out the Viking Way! Offering breathtaking views and challenging terrain, this 147-mile walk is perfect for experienced dog walkers who want to get their adrenaline pumping.
